Reviving the Advantages of Free Trade Zones under the 14th Government: Reforming the Free Zone Law after 32 Years; Restoring Economic Incentives and Benefits in the Implementation Phase

According to Titrsanat, Reza Masroor highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones to restore the legal advantages and incentives of these areas. He stated that the revision of the Free Trade Zones Law, after 32 years, has been finalized following extensive expert review and the active participation of representatives and managers from various zones in dozens of sessions.

Masroor stated that the new approach of the 14th Government focuses on the re-engineering of free trade zones and a return to their original founding philosophy. He noted:

The Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones referred to several recent executive measures, stating:
“At the beginning of the new term, car imports into free zones were not permitted, but this issue has now been fully implemented. Likewise, the problem of double value-added taxation has been resolved, and the allocation of foreign currency for production units within the free zones has been streamlined in coordination with the Central Bank. As a result, long waiting queues of several months for foreign currency approvals are no longer an issue today.”

Masroor announced that a proposal to lift the import restrictions on vehicles over 2,500 cc is currently under review by the Parliament’s Budget Commission, adding that “with the support of both Parliament and the Government, this legal amendment — along with other transformation programs for free trade zones — will be finalized by the end of this year.”

He emphasized: “There is no reason for despair. With the cooperation of all institutions and the active participation of the private sector, we can revive the path of growth and prosperity in the country’s free trade zones.”
